Pumice and Porcelain

How to clean hard water stains in your sinks and toilets

Now that we have assessed our need to address “Hard water” stains in our commercial and business venues let us establish a method for removal.

First, lets tackle the hard water points of origin in our sink, tub or toilet. Usually, the largest accumulation of water stains is at the opening where the water from the wall flows into the toilet or sink or occasionally around the faucets and fixtures. Apply with gloved hands a palm sized piece of pumice to the origin site of the stain and with solid force scrub until the stain site shrinks. This process will require 3 to 5 minutes for each 3 inch stain depending on depth of stain and force used to remove. Take breaks as you scrub. Bent over in a toilet scrubbing is a good way to get winded.

Once the origin points are scrubbed off of the surface we can move onto the more noticeable stains which are usually not as difficult to get off. We will use the same process for these stains as above. Apply with gloved hands a palm sized piece of pumice to the stain site and with solid force scrub until the stain is removed. The build up from the stains at the origin sites streams down the surface responsible for most of the other stains. Once all stains have been removed and the pumice residue has been wiped away your surface is ready for preventive maintenance as discussed in our next blog.

We hope you have learned a new, all natural method for removing hard water deposits from your porcelain surfaces. If you give it a try yourself please let us know how it goes. We would love to hear about your experience and please feel free to share any tips you may have.
